The prominent philosopher John Searle has said that were mankind were to accept that free will is an illusion it “would be a bigger revolution in our thinking than Einstein, or Copernicus, or Newton, or Galileo, or Darwin”. And this is probably not an overstatement by any stretch of the imagination, because free will skepticism is vastly unique in combining a gigantic intellectual realization that places man back firmly at the heart of the natural world with vast political, social, and cultural implications.
